Contribute to plugin development

Added by Dmitry Baldov almost 8 years ago

Hello,

We actively use the plugin but there are some features in mind we require.
We'd like to implement those features by our own and make them the part of the plugin. I have a few developers who can work on those tasks.
How can we register and contribute to the project?

Thank you!
Dmitry.

Hi Dmitry,

First of all thanks for the offer, but I'm not planning to add contributors to this project, it will require extra personal time to do that.

Additionally this plugin is open source but as the licence (Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International) says:
  1. Attribution is required.
  2. No derivatives are allowed.
By the moment, the only contribution that I think will help me is:
  1. Report bugs & ideas.
  2. Donation.

As I said before, thanks for the offer.

Two more things that could help me a lot:
  1. Answer forum threads about simple questions or common errors.
  2. The same on Issues tab.

Hi,

We are using awesome Scrum plugin but there are bugs and missing features we would like to fix/add. Please reconsider the option to allow people to commit into the code. I'm sure this would improve plugin quality and end user usability.

Hi,

It's really a shame you don't let anyone help you. The plugin badly needs some improvements to be a good scrum tool :(

Hello Emilio.
I'm just curious, if something has changed about development contibutions, after these six years.

These are few ideas for SCRUM plugin:
  • fast loading of big boards
  • DSU mode
    • selecting team member to speak by avatar click
    • board filtering for speaker
    • timelog view for speaker
    • time limit for speaker
  • board filter by version (one board for multiple projects)
  • SCRUM poker support
  • move PBI to top or bottom of the sprint
  • PBI priority badge
  • sprint targets based on PBIs priority
  • copy branch name (based on PBI and task name) to clipboard
  • statistics: story points per person per week, hours per story point
  • custom fields rendering in backlog
  • sprint and backlog name in browser tab
  • sprint effort for selected roles only
  • current sprint indicator
  • translation for Polish language

According to license derivatives are not allowed. This means plugin can be changed (adapted), but after that, public sharing is forbidden. During 14 years, your brilliant work was used worldwide, so there are many changes and adaptations, some of them probably equally brilliant, but used by small teams only. This work can't be hidden and after migration to another SCRUM tool - lost, let's give it to everyone.
All above ideas are already implemented and tested by everyday use. All of them can be instanly added to SCRUM plugin. Of course, it will require certain amount of your personal time - at least to check merge request. And that's the point.
I can promise, I will prepare code changes clean and commented enough, to check it in reasonable time. And to make things clear - I'll do it as a volunteer. Second thought: maybe you know a person, who could check merge requests instead of you.
Think about other developers, who can't wait to share their work with you. If you let them, this plugin can have the best functionality in the world.

Hi Piotr, plugin is still under same license, but contributions are welcomed for Patreon members. If any company is interested in extending the plugin and include their changes into plugin official repo this is possible via GitLab repo accesss… your ideas are great, do you consider collaborating with Patreon support to enable you that repo access & contribution option?

RE: Contribute to plugin development - Added by Piotr Grondziowski over 1 year ago

Hi.
My company is not iterested in extending the plugin, they are interested in using great SCRUM tool on legal basis, and they have it.
I am interested in extending the plugin, but - as I said before - as a volunteer. It means, I don't want to be payed and I don't want to pay. All I can offer is my personal time and skills.
Your Patreon model requires contibutors to pay 60€ per month for ability to make contributions. That's not for me, sorry.
Maybe one of your Gold or Platinum supporters will read my ideas above and decide to implement some of them. Feel fre to contact me, I can help with ready to copy&paste pieces of code.
In my opinion, "pay for pro functionality" model would work much better. My company would be interested in it.
